Pets are the ones that can ease our loneliness, reduce stress, encourage socialization, and the most important thing is that they give us affection and unconditional love. Certainly, caring for a pet can help us live longer. Studies have shown that those who have pets are less likely to suffer from depression than those without pets and have shown that blood pressure in pet owners is lower in stressful situations. It has also been shown that playing with a pet can raise serotonin and dopamine levels – which calms and relax and lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels.
Those over 65 make 30 percent fewer visits to doctors than those of the same age without pets. One of the reasons why pets have a therapeutic effect on us is because we can touch them. So caressing, cuddling, hugging, or playing with a loving animal can calm us when we are stressed, when we feel alone, being an incentive to improve our mood.
